    $$$*choke*$$$

    I'm stuck in the middle of our basement remodel, thinking I could do it on $5K... Oops! I'm in about $10K, not nearly done, and broke. BUT--I'm adding a "1/2 bath". It's hard to believe how much...it's only 450 sq', but the electrical was $1400, all new copper plumbing $2500, 5 windows (handyman installed) $900, lumber $500, misc labor $1500, demolition/dump fees $500, Home Depot receipts==various materials, sealants, paints, lighting, bathroom fixtures, etc... ===$$$$$$$
    OUCH! ...remodeling sucks.

    • Avatar stjohns6670 Approximately how much will it cost to remodel foreclosed home?
      Mar 20, 2007 by stjohns6670 | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling

      I found a foreclosed home I'd like to purchase. The home has about 3000 square feet plus a basement. To start, it needs new hard wood floors, paint in every room, new light fixtures in every room, and a new garage door. The kitchen also needs new cabinets and countertops. All three bathrooms also need to be updated. About how much?

      • Kitchen cabinets and countertops are very expensive, as are new wood floors, even if you're going with laminiate. We just paid $3000 for a Silestone counter in our kitchen, and paid $5000 for the laminate flooring in 2 rooms and a large hallway. The paint will cost a few hundred, unless you're going to have it painted by someone, then add quite a bit more onto that.
        Your best bet would be to have a contractor come and give you an estimate. The materials you're going to use will greatly affect that cost of the projects.

    • Avatar Kim Bathroom remodeling estimate?
      Jun 26, 2008 by Kim | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling

      I want to replace my bathtube and one row of tiles around the tube, and the shower unit mixer needs to be replaced. what's a rough estimate you can give me in chicago?
      tube = tub

      sorry

      • A conservative estimate would be around 3k (depending on the fixtures you want installed). You are going to need to hire a plumber to install your tub and mixer assembly and a tile person to do a quality job. The reason I say *conservative* is once you take out the old......you are able to see the problems beneath. Be prepared for pipe or water damage to your subfloor or walls. You should also really look at the style of fixtures and tile BEFORE you consult a contractor. That will help narrow down some costs now.
