Bathroom Fixtures

I'm looking for a source for good bathroom fixtures/furniture in the east bay. I need a vanity, sink and toilet.
I've tried the big boxes (hd, lowes, yardbirds), but I don't care for the styles available. (Who makes the design decisions for these places? Who decided that everyone must have oak cabinets with brass hardware?)
I need a 5ft vanity and top. I really like the look of a bowl on top of the counter. (Also, our family is tall and this will help with stooping.)
And does anyone have an answer as to why toilets these days have what I call "intestines" on the outside? You can see the looping of the flow of water

I'm renovating my 1926 Craftsman and keeping or

Restoring the period details.
I'm getting ready to do the bathroom and have purchased a beautiful slipper tub (reproduction) and matching pedistal sink both with gorgeous brass fixtures.
Here is my question: In terms of getting the ROI for this renovation, will it matter (+/-) when I go to sell if I've done a nice "period" bath renovation with subway tile and claw foot tub or a "modern" renovation with built-in tub/shower and vanity.
Any realtors, appraisers, or opinionated lurkers out there?

Ironic, but this seems to be true for me. I am much happier with my appearnace when I just let my body be. When ever I start to diet or really try and get in shape, I start hating my body and feeling more critical than ever. Does anyone feel the same or know why?
I'm going to put the answ …just by lifestyle, but start diietng and immeditely I start having a warped view of my body and start seeing myself as fat! (In reality calling me fat would be ridiculous), so fits more with your analogy about home decor/renos- it's fine until you try to fix it. Thanks for the interesting post!

    • That is because you put unattainable goals for yourself when you 'diet' or try to slim down...Learn to love your body. And do not make body ideals out of those photoshopped and starved people in magazine covers. Try to keep your body in its best shape- remember each of us are shaped differently...if you naturally have a small waist but big thighs, or a wider waist but shapely legs, so be it...Embrace what you have, and focus on eating healthy and being active...Screw the diets!

Hi everyone, we're remodeling our home to put it in the market for sale. Given the comparable properties in the neighborhood, our home in good condition will likely not fetch no more than $170,000.

The bulk of our renovation funds will be going to be going to remodeling our bathroom …ions, is it better to reface or replace? With countertops, should we go with laminate or granite (taking into account the home value)? Any idea how much either renovation could cost (material and labor as we would not be doing the work ourselves)?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

    • Personally I would chose to give the cupboards a fresh coat of paint, some new updated hardware (including hinges) and a mid range new countertop..maybe a silestone or corian. The look and age of your appliances will make a huge cosmetic difference too as many people cannot see past such things. As you stated, your home will brings in around 170000 top, so I would not spend much money...high end products cost a lot of money that cannot always be recouped in all situations.

The bulk of our renovation funds will be going to be going to remodeling our bathroom …4 linear feet and are of a wooden-type style. Our cabinets are painted white and have brass hinges and white/brass handles.

    • Check out Ikea..you might have enough in your budget to have both new cabinets and countertops. They are very reasonable and a brand new kitchen will impress buyers.
